This extraordinary 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle from Magnolia features the wonderfully inventive illustration art of Turkish artist Serhat Filiz, who has taken the actual sheet music of Ludwig van Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and populated every bar, stave, and margin with a riotous, whimsical parade of characters, creatures, and comedic vignettes that make this one of the most genuinely original and entertaining puzzles in the entire Magnolia lineup.
Serhat Filiz's Moonlight Sonata uses the actual printed score of Beethoven's iconic piano sonata as its canvas — and what he does with that canvas is nothing short of extraordinary. The sheet music is real, the notes are accurate, and the Ludwig van Beethoven attribution sits properly in the upper right — but between, above, below, and dancing directly across every stave, an unstoppable cast of illustrated characters has taken up residence and is having the time of their lives.
Beethoven himself appears at the top of the composition, arms folded and expression satisfied, presiding over the chaos below. From there, the scene cascades downward through a full vertical score packed with hundreds of individual characters and moments — a tortoise on a skateboard, a cat and a conductor mouse on a bed, a jester dancing a jig, a formal violinist playing in a tuxedo, a frog ballerina in a tutu, a grand piano standing unattended among the staves, a dalmatian bounding through the notes, a witch on a broomstick, a medieval drummer, pirates, jesters, clowns, farmers, aristocrats in period costume, squirrels, birds of every color, dancing musical notes with faces, a crowing rooster, a spider on a web, a campfire, a rainbow, a smiling pumpkin, dancing mice, and dozens more — each one occupying their own corner of the musical score with complete, joyful confidence.
At the very top, a smiling crescent moon, a vintage alarm clock, colorful bunting, butterflies, and a cheerful blue sky frame the title. At the bottom, the cavalcade continues all the way to the final bar line, where a raven perches with cool authority on the last stave. The cream-colored sheet music background provides a beautifully consistent compositional anchor throughout, and Serhat Filiz's bold, expressive character work gives every single figure — however small — a personality entirely their own. This Magnolia jigsaw is a standing ovation in puzzle form.
